2021 Summer Reading

English Department

This summer we want you to go on an adventure! Travel to the farthest parts of the earth, explore the galaxy or visit a small town with a big secret. Books are a great way to travel, see the world, and explore new perspectives, especially when actually going somewhere isn't always an option. Whether it is something you have already read or you are embarking on a new adventure, reading is the best way to help your brain grow and stay focused to prepare you for the upcoming school year. While there is no assignment or required reading this summer, there isn't one English teacher here at Crooms who wouldn't love to hear about your reading adventures over the summer.

Social Studies

AP World History
Incoming AP World History students have the option of reading Tom Standage's A History of the World in 6 Glasses. In this book, Standage tells the story of world history from the Stone Age to the 21st century through the lens of six influential beverages (beer, wine, spirits, coffee, tea, and cola). Reading this book will widen students' background knowledge in preparation for taking on the challenge of AP World History. Students will not be expected to complete any assignment in conjunction with this book as this summer assignment is optional.

Math

Algebra and Geometry
Venture onto Khan Academy just for fun! Re-visit a topic you struggled with and watch some videos or try the practice assignments. With no pressure of a grade and a due date, you can use all the "hints" you want! Master factoring quadratics, graphing linear functions, or finally figure out what logarithms are all about! The possibilities are infinite!
